The Rhodopes are among the provenances from European civilisation. Pieces of the Roman roads associating Aegean towns on the Upper Thracian vale may still be seen at numerous places round the region – the small town of Gela, the Persenk Hut, the Chairski Lakes, etc – together with the ruinings by forts from the time of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom near Assenovgrad and the village of Shiroka Luka.

While domiciled as thousands from years, the Rhodopes still harbour in their bosom wild locates that look to be untouched by individuals. The Rhodopes are among the few mountain ambits in Europe where the Brown Bear and Wolf still breeds. Old-growth forests are home to cervid, elk, fox, wild goat, and other rare European species.
The easterly part of the Rhodopes is a true heaven for bird fans just the westerly part shouldn’t be commanded as it contains all over two hundred species, numerous of them rather rare. The Trigrad Gorge is the kingdom of the famed Wallcreeper – you can observe this wonderful bird while sipping your coffee at the entrance to the Devil’s Throat Cave.

Dippers and King Fisher will scoot round you as you walk by clear brooks and streams. A Golden Eagle hovering high in the sky presents an unforgettable sight. Whenever you come to the Rhodopes during spring you may hear the early-morning mating call of the Capercaillie.

Lush, grassy hayfields pop into mind while thinking about the Rhodopes. As numerous centuries locals have kept herds of sheep, as a result of which, they’ve created hayfields outrests. These meadows now are home to an abundance of rare flowers, many of which are not found anywhere else on Earth. In early spring you can see the pink petals of Silivriak (Heberlea rhodopaensis), the symbol of the Rhodopes, which has the unique quality of being able to spring back to life even after being pressed for years. Legend has it that the flower bloomed out of the blood of Orpheus after he was dismembered.

The Rhodopes are also long-familiar for their mushrooms. Here you’ll be able to also pick yourself a multicolour bouquet of herbs; the most fragrant thyme grows here.
Whenever you’re still not confident that the Rhodopes are a slicing of true, wild nature, then the just other choice that remains is for you to come here and see it for yourself.

Republic of Bulgaria is a notable producer of wine in Eastern European Union. The wines that succeed beyond entirely expectation are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot. The Cabernet and Merlot have yield, vigour, balance – the robust qualities from red Bordeaux wine in a good vintage, whenever not it has delicacy. The national assortments from red wine are Gamza, the live Kadarka, Pamid, which gives pale gulping wine; Mavrud, which gives the opposite – the country’s national pride; and Melnik, of that town in the far southwest.

Melnik could be called the Syrah of Republic of Bulgaria, firm, benighted and really flavoury, aging most indefinitely. One of whites, the dominant local kinds are Rkatziteli and Dimiat. Red Misket and Muscat Ottonel are popular, but succes with Chardonnay, Reasling, Gewurztraminer and Aligote is elbowing most of the traditional varieties aside.
The Bulgarian monasteries – hiding human, warm and living rather than divine beauty behind their austere stone facades, still amaze with their magnificent architecture, unfading frescoes and murals, exquisite icons and wood-carvings, made by self-taught architects, builders and painters.

The Bulgarian monasteries – during difficult and turbulent times they acted as centers of patriotism which helped to preserve national feelings and hopes of the Bulgarians. The town of Bansko is situated in Southwestern Bulgaria, at the foothills of among the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains – Pirin, which is a national preserve, included in the WORLD innate inheritance list. Ski-resort of national signification, much visited also in summertime as a beginning point as digressions in the mountain.

The latest Bulgarian ski resort, lately ascertained by the foreign tourists, Bansko supplies an interesting combination between the virgin nature of Pirin Mountain and the atmosphere of the ancient Bulgarian town. Here, at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, the houses look almost like monasteries – even as ascetic and unaccessible, with high stone walls and small fretted windows, The true Bulgarian spirit is hidden behind the solid walls and heavy gates – in the spacious rooms with friezes and bay windows, carved ceilings and doors, pretty rugs and embroidered cushions, in the murals, icons and amazingly carved iconostasis of the Holy Trinity Church (1832-35)

Rio de Janeiro is an awesome city where impossibly absorb granite mountains arise from the sea between splendid stretches of golden sand. Brash skyscrapers vie for space with immaculate colonial constructions, and lush forests broken-down hillsides into dumbly domiciled residential areas.Entry point for cruise ships is the Baía de Guanabara, a huge crescent alcove backed up along the stunning cityscape of man-made structures and dramatic natural attractions. Rio has a unique story and culture, passionate people and vivacious beach, city and nightlife, characterized by football, samba and most importantly Carnival. The cidade maravilhosa (marvellous city) will not fail to impress.

Sightseeing

It’s relatively easy to orient yourself in Rio as its harbour and beaches run the length of its seaward side and the landscape is dominated by the twin peaks of Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf) and the Corcovado (Hunchback), which is topped by the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) statue.

Copacabana and Ipanema beaches remain the focal point for many visitors to Rio but those prepared to venture a little further will discover a bustling city with exceptional museums, galleries, historical buildings and parks amid the skyscrapers and favelas (shantytowns). The contrasts continue into the suburbs which eventually give way to the wildlife rich wilderness of the Mata Atlântica (Atlantic forest).

Highlights
• Pão de Açúcar cable car
• Corcovado views
• Paço Imperial (Imperial Palace)
• Mosteiro de São Bento (Monastery of St Benedict)
• Museu Histórico Nacional (National History Museum)
• Maracanã (football stadium)
• Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (lake and park)
• Tijuca National Park (world’s largest urban park)

When you are staying in the Bali Kuta beach area you can easily keep yourself busy from early in the morning till late in the night. While things start a bit later than in other Balinese villages, slowly after 8 in the morning things start to wake up again…

Between the hustle and bustle of the big streets where most shops are found, there are many other attractions that will provide you with unforgettable experiences.

Kuta and the neighbouring villages are mostly famous for its beaches and surfing. Early in the morning surf boards are placed up right in the sand while Balinese surf instructors wait for their pupils who want to try to catch their first waves.

If you want to see more than just Kuta itself, you can easily reach other places that are only a few kilometres away.

Just a short drive away you can pay a visit to the popular temples, other gorgeous beaches and interesting museums.

After the beautiful sunset there are still many things to do in Kuta, Legian and Seminyak. Clubs and bars offer great entertainment every night of the week, you will probably never want to go home again.

Swimming: If surfing is not on your list of things-to-do, the soft beach offers a beautiful spot to sun bath, swim and to watch the dark red-yellow sunset that Bali’s west coast is so famous for.

However before jumping in the sea for a swim look left and right first. Don’t go in when the red flags on the beach are visible.

I once ignored it which resulted in restaurant staff and sellers on the beach screaming at me to get out. I on the other hand was enjoying myself too much to even notice their panicked looking faces.

Only when I was out of the water did I understand why the people were yelling. Unfortunately many swimmers have drowned after being pulled down by the strong currents.
